I'm not much for resolutions, but I really have to make more of an effort to keep this blog current.
That being said, here is my first completed image for the year.
It's a self promo piece featuring some Tiefling-esque characters up to no good.
I'm trying to improve on storytelling using gestures and expression, in my work.
I think this turned out pretty well.
There's always room to improve though, so if you have any comments or critiques, I'd love to hear them.
I work alone, so it can be hard to know what's working and what isn't...
Thanks, and Happy New Year!

If storytelling was your objective, then I'm pretty sure you can chalk this image up as a success. I love the mood of it, I sympathize with the poor green hooded character, and I find myself curious what the red armored tiefling is saying. (It's doubtless he's expounding upon his heinous scheme, but still...)
These are all signs of good storytelling.
I have 2 constructive crits, and they're both in the same corner of the image - the lower left. I would like to see the dog out from under the green hooded character a bit more. I haven't met many dogs who won't jump when they're as mad as this one appears. This might also help to make it more clear as to who's dog it is. (Though that's not too much in doubt.)
The second thing (and this is pretty minor) is the brown armored tiefling's tail almost looks like it's coming from the green hooded character. Perhaps drop the angle on it a bit?
I know that this image has probably been set aside as it's the first from this year, but I just thought that I would offer my $0.02.
Great work, and I look forward to seeing much more!
Thanks for the comments and critique! I really appreciate it.
Your observations are pretty spot on.
I was definitely trying to work more of a narrative into the image, but there are some compositional failings.
All in all, this one was a good learning experience.
I'm glad you like it. :)
